The heat pump is cooling, but the fan motor is not blowing, which leaves a coils freezing up in the air handler.

The fan seems to move by hand, and I am suspecting a failed part within the ECM (thermistor?). A HVAC tech neighbor tested something, but without removing the motor, and related it to a Rheem support tech, who told him to replace the entire ECM motor at $ his cost!).

Many others have found it was a $ part! How does one safely remove the motor to check out the ECM? Thanks to any who can help out. Last edited by beenthere; at 05:22 AM.

Reason: Prices. Thanks for the reply. I have used a GE ECM Motor troubleshooting guide (found at the dealers toolbox) and tested the motor windings, and the resistance of the motor.

It would appear that the motor has failed, but not necessarily the ECM module. Not finding a method to test the ECM module, but the circuit board looks pristine with no evidence of burnout. Now wondering if I should replace only the motor or the ECM & motor unit. That is $ motor only vs $ ECM Motor bout online or $ dealers cost direct from Rheem. Still no reason to believe the ECM is faulty.

Not sure what to do Last edited by jpsmith1cm; at 09:48 PM. Reason: pricing. Quick Navigation.
