Replacing the regulator or the regulator motor Once you have your door panel off (DIY 1), skip to one of the other three procedures to fix your specific problem. First: What Will You Need to Replace? You have to remove the interior door panel to access any of these parts. If the door glass has been shattered, the door glass guide may or may not require removal.

I recommend removing to make it easier to remove any glass fragments stuck within the guide. If the rubber guide is still inside the door guide frame you might not be able to remove all the glass fragments, though a metal rod pushed into and along the guide may dislodge them. Prepare to spend some time vacuuming out broken glass fragments from the interior of the door after you remove the door panel and the plastic vapor barrier or water barrier.

If the door glass guide is damaged, you will have to remove the door glass, although you can leave the window regulator in place after detaching it from the door glass. If you have to replace the window regulator or the regulator motor, you can leave the door glass and guide in place, with the door glass taped in place to prevent it from sliding down into the door (see the video below). Alternatively, the door glass can be removed from the door and re-inserted without much difficulty. You can buy a regulator motor separate from the window regulator itself. But in my experience, for a few dollars more you can get a complete window regulator that includes a new motor. If you think you can re-build the regulator motor, good luck.

Window Off Track The Toyota Camry windows are a pretty straightforward system. There are tracks on each side of the window that are attached to the door to keep the window in place. Window Regulator The power windows are operated by a motor attached to a lever system also known as the window regulator. This pushes the window up and manages the speed it retracts. Over time, this motor can give out through normal wear and tear.

In order to replace the regulator, follow these steps:. Find a replacement part at parts.olathetoyota.com. Next, remove the door panel by locating screws on the interior panel. These can be located in the armrest and behind the speakers. Then, pull carefully on the door panel to release it from clips. While you remove the door panel, remember to disconnect the door locks. There will be an electrical cable running from inside the door to the door locks.

Next, you will find a thin, plastic barrier protecting the door innards. Carefully peel back this plastic.

Locate the window regulator by matching it up with your new part. If you can’t find it, just look at the bottom of the window and find the pieces that connect to it. Remove the bolts that keep the regulator in place. Replace the old regulator with the new one and reverse the steps to put it in. Replacing the regulator should be a half hour to a full hour job and is pretty easy for a novice to do.
