This article will help you fix three separate issues related to car windows. A broken or shattered window ('door glass'). A defective door glass guide. A break in this rubber lining around the glass can cause a water leak or wind roar. A defective window regulator, or defective window regulator motor. When the regulator is not working, the door glass acts 'stuck' or only moves sporadically. Four Step-by-Step Procedures This article gives four step-by-step procedures: DIY 1.

Removing the door panel (necessary before making any of these repairs) DIY 2. Replacing the door glass guide DIY 3. Replacing the door glass DIY 4.

  • Does your Toyota Camry have a problem with one of the door windows? Misdiagnosing a problem can lead to additional repair time and money wasted.

Replacing the regulator or the regulator motor Once you have your door panel off (DIY 1), skip to one of the other three procedures to fix your specific problem. First: What Will You Need to Replace? You have to remove the interior door panel to access any of these parts. If the door glass has been shattered, the door glass guide may or may not require removal.

I recommend removing to make it easier to remove any glass fragments stuck within the guide. If the rubber guide is still inside the door guide frame you might not be able to remove all the glass fragments, though a metal rod pushed into and along the guide may dislodge them. Prepare to spend some time vacuuming out broken glass fragments from the interior of the door after you remove the door panel and the plastic vapor barrier or water barrier.

If the door glass guide is damaged, you will have to remove the door glass, although you can leave the window regulator in place after detaching it from the door glass. If you have to replace the window regulator or the regulator motor, you can leave the door glass and guide in place, with the door glass taped in place to prevent it from sliding down into the door (see the video below). Alternatively, the door glass can be removed from the door and re-inserted without much difficulty. You can buy a regulator motor separate from the window regulator itself. But in my experience, for a few dollars more you can get a complete window regulator that includes a new motor. If you think you can re-build the regulator motor, good luck.

I've tried and never gotten it to work. Once the electrical brushes are gone, all my attempts to use a substitute brush have failed. Shopping at Junkyards for Door Glass and Guide The door glass and the door glass guide are difficult to obtain off the internet except from an eBay junkyard scavenger. Otherwise, there is the dealership. Shop and compare prices, or visit your local junkyard and bring your toolbox.

You will only need a 3/8' 10-mm socket with extension and driver, a screwdriver set, and a small plastic pry bar. Access the window mounting bolts.

If the window regulator motor has stopped functioning, then the door glass cannot be moved downward to allow unbolting of the door window mounting bolts through the door access holes. In this situation, you need to unbolt the window regulator unbolted from the door frame with the door window attached. (See photo a.) The regulator and window can then be dropped down and manually positioned to allow access and removal of the window mounting bolts. If assistance is unavailable, hold the base of the window with one hand while removing the door window mounting bolts with the other. OEM Camry window parts on sale: In order to properly fix the problem, it is important to properly diagnose it. Take some time to really consider what is going on and if you understand the full extent of the problem. Misdiagnosing a problem can lead to additional repair time and money wasted. When you know what the problem is, here are some likely fixes.

Window Off Track The Toyota Camry windows are a pretty straightforward system. There are tracks on each side of the window that are attached to the door to keep the window in place. If your window slips or falls, look at these tracks to see if any of them are loose. Over time, the window tracks can get worn down.

You can order new tracks or you can use glue or new screws into the door panel to keep the track in place. Bad Fuse Another culprit for the window not staying up is a bad fuse. Toyota put a 30A fuse in the fuse box that controls the power windows, power locks and power moonroof. Keep in mind, the fuse controls all three systems. If everything listed isn’t working, then it is a fuse. If it is just the windows, you probably have a bad regulator.

Window Regulator The power windows are operated by a motor attached to a lever system also known as the window regulator. This pushes the window up and manages the speed it retracts. Over time, this motor can give out through normal wear and tear.

In order to replace the regulator, follow these steps:. Find a replacement part at parts.olathetoyota.com. Next, remove the door panel by locating screws on the interior panel. These can be located in the armrest and behind the speakers. Then, pull carefully on the door panel to release it from clips. While you remove the door panel, remember to disconnect the door locks. There will be an electrical cable running from inside the door to the door locks.

Next, you will find a thin, plastic barrier protecting the door innards. Carefully peel back this plastic.

Locate the window regulator by matching it up with your new part. If you can’t find it, just look at the bottom of the window and find the pieces that connect to it. Remove the bolts that keep the regulator in place. Replace the old regulator with the new one and reverse the steps to put it in. Replacing the regulator should be a half hour to a full hour job and is pretty easy for a novice to do.
