I recently received a comment on the post Books for CSAT where the valued commenter said that TMH GS Manual is no longer relevant for CSAT preparation. I thought I needed to dispel this misconception as the TMH General Studies guide is somewhat of an iconic reference book for IAS Prelims preparation. Although the Paper 2 has changed drastically as the optionals have been replaced by a GS paper, the first paper is still as is. The only change in it is that the mental ability part has been shifted to the second paper. So now you need one additional reference book for. Still, this does not exclude the book you used to refer till now for the first paper.
Now there are some books in the market focusing on CSAT 2011 like the Pearson CSAT Manual 2011 which are good as they balance both papers nicely. I would suggest u to buy TMH GS mannual because all the sections covered in the book,moreover the content is superb,it also contails past years solved question papersdetailed maps in geography, the current knowledge section and the gk section are no match to any other book.
I still feel they should have introduced some mock test papers which are very necessary for preparation moreover the book has been in printing for almost 25 years —— The pearson mannual is also good bt something is still lacking in the book,the matter is less than required for csat level exam. The sections are still lacking information the plus point of this book is that it covers both the papers.and paper 2 section is very good covering everything in deep and explainig all the topics clearly.it also covers english comprehension beautifull Iwould suggest tmh gs for paper 1 and forpaper 2 I would recomend pearson csat mannual paper 2,or crack csat by disha or arihant.

I will advise you to supplement this with the Economic Survey of India published by Oxford University Press that contains a wealth of economic data in tabulated form.
Ecology, Bio-Diversity and Climate Change These topics as you might know are constantly in the news and thus have been included in the new Prelims syllabus by UPSC. Good news is that TMH has added a separate section on these 3 topics in the reference manual for Paper 1. Each of the 3 topics have been tackled comprehensively and a lot of supplementary information is included as well. Another plus is that there are separate questions on Ecology, Bio-Diversity and Climate Change after each topic. For aspirants who want to know a good source for tackling this section, TMH GS Manual is good enough. Extensive Coverage of General Science The Science portion has always been a plus point of getting the TMH Reference Manual and its no different this year as well.
